The Irish Rover: Looking for Mars Off the Northern Coast of Ireland
a Lovely Weather project
- Dr. Stephan Schleidan, currently based in Space
Aboard The Irish Rover, my colleagues and I conducted research both above and below sea level. Scuba diving made me feel right at home due to the weightlessness and the artificial breathing apparatus. Even the environment underwater reminded me of my view from my office window back in space due to the floating debris, and Martian-like landscapes and creatures. After collecting the needed data our team put the tools away and interacted with the local communities to elaborate on our theories, findings, and the overall expedition. I found this section of the mission most rewarding. Now that we are back home, we continue to put the pieces together to link Mars' past to the earth's future.
The League of Imaginary Scientists went aboard The Irish Rover to study Mars, on Ireland. This video tells the story of how the project came to be, on Mars and on Island Roy in County Donegal in Ireland.
