The Earth Biological Clock
a work in progress involving global warming, underwater ballet, and local action

The Earth Biological Clock engages a community of collaborators. An LED screen in the creature's habitat displays ecological data as well as the input of community members and students - their text messages of actions that could potentially offset climate change in some small way. These ecological interventions, communicated by SMS to the project and filtered into categories of ecological actions, will be tallied digitally and incorporated into a numerical clock in real-time. In this way, community members interact with the art, with their environment, and with the planet. The public sculpture is simultaneously a research project layering qualitative, experiential information about individuals’ conservation efforts against the measurable effects of climate change. In this way, individual students and community members can view their own actions in the context of global environmental conditions.
